09/01/04 Wednesday
Nothing on the video last night of course.
Called Melissa at Athens Disposal and again was told that they will call me back and they never did. They insured me that they call Animal Control if a dead animal is found in the trash.
Called for Laura re Monrovia sighting but she is sick and I have only work number. The guy said they will tell her to call me. But she never called.
6 pm at the shelter, they never went to the Industry plant on a call from Athens! Spoke to supervisor David Nelson all evening. He was very nice today and so was Terry. I went through the entire month of August again and part of July back. David also checked all impound numbers I took out of the live animal records. Most cats where euthanized. A woman took a 2 week old baby dog from a mother that has cancer and can't be saved. The volunteers said that mom was extremely upset and crying for her baby. Why not put mom to sleep first??? Isn’t that extremely cruel?
There were no matches anywhere.
While there I got a call from David. He saw a cat with a stubby tail at Barranca and Rowland, he saw the fliers, but the cat was charcoal and had a stub.
2 hours later I got a call from Glen at Bonnie Cove and Colora. He saw a tailless cat in June he said he called me on, or left a message and tonight he just saw it again. It has no tail at all. I immediately drove there and laid bait, got a trap from Cyril and when I returned the cat was indeed black and tailless and eating the bait by the curb. So easy!
It wasn’t NoTail of course, this was a young one, small face, small body, and a furry bush over the butt.
When I returned home exhausted and checked email, I read that another Angie saw a black cat without a tail at 9 pm disappear in a yard of a house at the corner of Rimhurst and Adams Park not 500 yards from where Cyril lives. That just can't be that there is a cat without a tail now that close and three months later.
Regardless, I had to check it out. Called Cyril, it was 11 pm now or later, to go there and spread bait. I arrived there past midnight. But no cat, a Uhaul truck made too much noise. I parked and watched but there was nothing. Spread more bait, left for gas and came back, still nothing. I went home because I couldn't keep my eyes open anymore.
09/02/04 Thursday
9 am Edith from San Dimas called, she saw a cat at the corner of Valley Center and Cypress. Black cat without a tail, but then he had a little stub and some gray on the belly. Could be same cat that Ashley reported a while back, it had a stub too. Edith walked her two dogs, took them home and went to get the cat. She tried to pick it up and got all scratched up and bloody. It was not NoTail.
Later I got a call from Cecilia. she saw a black cat without a tail up for adoption at Petco in Whittier last Sunday. I left a message with Kathleen to call me.
At 9 pm to the sighting less than 500 yards from Cyril's home. Black with a tail was eating last night’s leftovers and at first I didn't see a tail. My heart stopped. But then I saw the tail. Oh dear, if this is not him here either, he is surely not alive anymore. I know this now.
Spoke to the neighbors and they shattered my last hope. There is a cat with a short stub that has been living here for a long time. Spoke to the house sitter where this cat lives and she confirmed, that this cat lost its tail years ago. Dear God, it is over. He is gone and I know it, have known it the second Cyril told me "NoTail is gone".
Went to Cyril's to pick up the video nonetheless and told him that NoTail is gone. He didn't believe it. He said Leslie has no reason to kill NoTail much less could catch him! Well, if that is the case where the hell is he? And why is he not coming back and why hasn't anyone seen him???
Devastated, yet again, I left his place in tears, looked up and down the alley of the parking lot, this overpopulated, dirty, smelly place where my baby got killed, before I drove off, thinking that he might be still alive for some magical reason just because I wish it to be so. Hugged all my cats tight when I returned home for a long time.
09/03/04 Friday
Extended the ad with SGVN and LA Times yet another week. Just in case.
The Petco adoption people didn't return my call.
Neither did Tina or Melissa at Athens Disposal in City of Industry.
Left a message for Cats in Need organization. They never called back.
Went to the park after work to look for that place where we saw NoTail's vivid image in the reed. But all of it was cut down.
09/04/04 Saturday
Pomona Valley HS, spoke to Jennifer and David, they both already knew what I was looking for. Jennifer told me that she cleaned all the feral cages this morning and was looking for NoTail. She promised to call when she finds NoTail, I guess no need anymore to go there. Cyril went to Baldwin Park and briefly spoke to Jennifer Bradley there. He forgot to ask about the vanished cat. Kathleen and Joni called me back in the afternoon. The cat from their adoption at Petco in Whittier is a 2 year old female with a stub. But Joni said, she will put a note about NoTail in their newsletter.
Drove by Athens Disposal in City of Industry, big place. What to do about it? They never call animal control when they find them in the trash, they will not talk to me and not cooperate at all. Would like to get a notice to all employees that sort the trash if they saw NoTail. But how?
To Cyril's place, saw Manuel the manager flying his kite. Showed him the story in the newspaper and asked him about neighbor Leslie. He said Leslie complains about everyone and writes nasty letters about his neighbors.
I spoke to a Mexican neighbor to the west, he was looking too but didn't see NoTail. Next door to him and directly behind Cyril's apartment a big woman said that Leslie threatened Morris's owner to kill the cat if it keeps coming into his patio. That is not what I wanted to hear… the other neighbor didn’t put up the fliers on her fence again. Someone takes them down immediately and I wish I knew who.
I also spoke to Alicia again and she asked her boys in front of me, if they remember anything. I don’t think they have anything to do with NoTail being killed. She left the Wednesday before Cyril came back and didn’t notice anything unusual.
Cyril doesn't believe that Leslie has anything to do with NoTail's death!
Should I call Linda from www.ispeakanimal.com and ask her to talk to Leslie’s cat?
Now everything points to the neighbor, he may have killed NoTail, I don't know. I don't want to accuse him, and I don't want this to be true. Not at all, but I have no other explanation for his disappearance

09/07/04 Tuesday
We are winding down. I don't think I can keep up the grueling pace I did for the last three months. I am so tired and I know NoTail is dead. He is not out there anymore and he never even was out there. Someone killed him and I cant find out who, why, and where. So senseless all this.
Carol called me, she takes care of the colony behind the paper company. And sadly she told me that the beautiful silver tabby was killed on the road a week ago. That made me very sad. He was so pretty and surely would have been adopted just because of that. The others just disappeared and no one knows. Especially the two injured cats there. So sad!
I called Athens Disposal, during this week I spoke to one additional person after bugging them last week several times. They flat out refuse to let me talk to a supervisor. They never call animal control to pick up dead animals they find in the trash as they are supposed to. So naturally they don't want to talk to me to make this known. I believe it is against the law, what they are doing!
I watched another video from the patio, lots of cats visiting the patio for a bite to eat but none of them is NoTail, can’t be.
09/08/04 Wednesday
I received the wireless camera, now just have to find out how to set it up.
We met at the shelter after work. Cyril looked at all the cats and I combed hundreds of DOA records. Dear Officer Nelson was so patient with me and looked up all the records in the computer if there were more information. There was no match of course. Picked up another video from the apartment to watch tonight, always the same cats.
09/09/04 Thursday
After work I needed a lot of time to psyche myself up to talk to the neighbor. Eventually I lost my guts after seeing that he had a visitor and I need to talk to him alone. But another neighbor offered to use her friend that can “speak” sign language and I may do that. Although I don't even know if he knows sign language.
Figured out the wireless camera and it works great, now to find a place where to set it up.
09/10/04 Friday
Extended the advertisement in the San Gabriel Valley Newspaper Group and LA Times yet for another week. Ordered an additional battery for the wireless camera. Other than that I don't know what else to do. I have run from Pontius to Pilatius to find my baby. I just don't know who else to ask, where else to go, or search…. I will take the weekend off from this. I am so drained!

09/11/04 Saturday
Cyril went to the Baldwin Park and Pomona shelters, it just becomes a routine now, the thing to do on a Saturday…
09/13/04 Monday
The remote wireless video camera arrived, but the battery will not be sufficient. Have to order another one. Need to set up nightly surveillance in one more area.
09/15/04 Wednesday
Cyril went to look at the cats in Baldwin Park and I checked the DOA record. Went back all the way to May 24th again. Reviewed all of my entries and double checked questionable matches. But there was nothing that matched. Supervisor David Nelson always spends at least half an hour checking the impound numbers on the computer for more information. He also spoke to nearly all drivers about the black cat without a tail. No one has even seen a black cat without a tail at all. I always stay long after they close at 7 pm and he has been very helpful. Thank you, David!
09/16/04 Thursday
The battery pack for the camera arrived. Need to find a way to attach it to a wall to observe and still transmit a signal to the VCR. Watched 2 videos from last weekend. There are now 11 cats frequenting Cyril's patio. Of course not NoTail.
09/18/04 Saturday
I went to Pomona and told supervisor Jennifer, that I will not be coming here anymore. I asked her to call me when she hears anything and she put up a flier on a board where there were no fliers for lost animals before. I told her how much the reward is and that will help to insure that she calls me, just in case!
Then I went to “talk” to Leslie the deaf mute. I was scared at first, there was a problem yesterday morning, when he threatened another neighbor with a stick and someone called the police. The other neighbors with the sign language speaking friend called, that she is too scared to come with me to talk to Leslie. So I was on my own and I said what the heck, I will just knock on his door. What could he do to me? I need to know!
I started off with asking him about his injured shoulder and it was fine again, the sling was gone. Then I asked him straight, “God tells me that you killed cat, is that true?” calmly he shook his head and wrote, that he loves cats (he has one himself, a girl named Lucky), would never kill a cat, and he obeys God, and knows that he can’t do anything bad like that. Again he told me that one morning that week, the screen was open a crack as always and then between 4 and 6 pm that day it was closed and he was wondering. But he didn't see anything else. He said at night, his cat woke him, because there was some cat noise behind his apartment. How did he hear that?
Anyway, I believe him now, that he didn't kill NoTail. I told myself that to find closure. I imagined that he tortured NoTail and that he died an awful death. I tortured myself. Maybe that is not true, I pray it is not. Or the torture will never end for me!
I spoke to cat lady Gloria in the complex to enlist her help with the camera. We will work on that on Monday.
At night I sat in the park for a while and watched the black cat eat the cat food from the pavement where I just sprinkled it for her. She is still there, still alive and doing well. Why couldn't that be NoTail???
09/19/04 Sunday
The time I spent thinking about what happened to NoTail is going into the thousand’s hour…

09/20/04 Monday
Stopped at Cyril's, Leslie asked me to call the police on neighbor, he smells rock, chemicals?
Got VCR and wireless camera and went to Gloria's to set up surveillance, Cyril came later, had to break up set up because took too long.
09/21/04 Tuesday
Continued set up of system with Cyril and Gloria's grandson. Got it to work with very weak signal.
09/22/04 Wednesday
Baldwin Park, Cyril didn't make it. Backtrack finished to Monday May 24, checked all records with Supervisor David Nelson. One disturbing record from Last Friday 09/17/04, Officer number #48 again, Phyllis Figueroa, picked up a black neutered cat almost half way between Cyril's place and mine on Payson in County Area of Azusa.
09/23/04 Thursday
went to Gloria's to give her an extra tape and she gave me one, she watched the other one, saw several cats but no NoTail. Gave her some money for all the trouble and the holes in the walls. She said that she will not accept it. Drove by Payson but couldn't see gate open.
09/24/04 Friday
Call from Carol who takes care of the Blake Colony mentioned another animal psychic Cathryn Olson. Gloria tried to get the camera to work again but couldn't, Cyril tried too and the battery pack didn’t charge. Called SGVT and LA Times to extent ad another week.
09/25/04 Saturday
7:33 am, Officer Phyllis Figueroa called re my message. I asked her if the cat had a tail that she picked up on the 17th on Payson Street in Azusa County area and she said "no, it didn't". After asking her several times she said she is not sure then she said, she is sure that cat had a tail. Whatever, this woman cannot be believed.
Cyril tried to fix the camera but it doesn't work anymore. He went to Baldwin Park today.
09/28/04 Tuesday
Wrote letter to people on Payson re neutered cat, drove there after work and talked to the woman. She said that cat had a tail and it belonged to neighbors across. Spoke to that woman too and she confirmed. Drove through alley behind Jack in the Box in Azusa looking for NoTail. If that one caller only had told me that he saw a cat without a tail or left his phone number. But he didn't!
Ordered new battery pack for wireless camera.
09/29/04 Wednesday
Left message for Cathryn Olson, Carol called again, Lupe (website visitor) called and wanted to know if we found NoTail.
Baldwin Park Shelter, 5 entries with possible match but was not after David Nelson checked them. I told David about Figueroa's thorough descriptions and memory.
Watched last week Wednesday’s video of the cats in the northwest corner of the apartments. 6 other cats, some black, tiger and white, no NoTail of course
09/30/04 Thursday
Extended one more week for ad in LA Times, SGVT, Pasadena Star News, Whittier Daily News. Left another message for Cathryn Olson animal communicator…
