08/01/04 Sunday
C picked up the trap in west park, the white and orange cat with collar again. The trap by the school had the gray cat that we saw the night before. Hope she won't go in again, she ate and was not very afraid. I called SGVHS, Jane answered and she checked records and inventory but there was nothing of course. Saved me a trip there. In the afternoon I knocked on the neighbor's door again. He opened and let me in reluctantly. He showed me his cat, he said his cat was crying during the night when NoTail may have left, she woke him up at 1 or 2 am. There was howling behind his place in the alley. He thinks that someone hit him and threw him in the trash. I started breaking out in sweat and asked him several times if he knows that for sure and he kept saying no, but he said God tells him that cat is dead. So worried now, this wont leave me alone.
Set up surveillance in the patio last night with my video camera. But I had only 90 minutes to tape and three cats came in with a tail. We searched the entire park again, but saw only one baby frog and one rat. The kitty buffet continued behind the garages east and west, the trapping in the park and school.
Checked on stray colony and counted 10 of them. As we looked on the right side of one truck, a black cat was sitting there and it looked like it had no tail, even C said "wait a minute here", and pointed the flashlight on it. That black cat's face looked so much like NoTail. I can't tell you what went through my mind that split second before the cat turned around to show us his tail. My heart pumped adrenaline by the gallon into my system so that I had to sit down, because my knees wouldn't support my weight anymore. This day brought no good news at all and I spend yet another sleepless night.
08/02/04 Monday
The food was mostly eaten specially tuna at garage east, park east. Trap in school and trap park west empty and untouched... Email again to Linda, the animal communicator with names of other animals. She didn't reply yet. The catprofiler said it is unlikely that he was hit and picked up to be thrown away. No one would stop and bother to do that after speeding down the road. Called another animal communicator or psychic this time, she said NoTail is alive and well and he thinks about me all the time. She said it was an accident that he got out, another cat pushed him away and two dogs frightened him (that might be very true). She contined to tell me that he was out for three weeks and then was taken in by a woman three blocks away. He was tired and hungry. The house has siding, a big window and a big tree with a little red car out front...
Bought a VCR for longer hour surveillance. Set out food behind garage east, patio, park east, trap park west and school, garage west were too many people around. No buffet there tonight. Looking for the house with the little red car...
08/03/04 Tuesday
No animal in trap park west at all. Nothing in trap at school either, just that one cat living there?? The custodian surprised and scared C at 5 am, but he explained and the guy said he knows about NoTail through the flyers all over. Good! The food in all stations is being eaten more and more. 11 am at ACSBP, the admin supervisor checked the adopted and spay/neuter records for July 3rd and 4th, 7 cats adopted not 8 like headquarters reported, 2 cats on July 6, one black kitten, that was it. No one has seen the black cat without a tail at the shelter? What happened there and who is telling the truth? C was there in the afternoon, the two cats slated to die last Saturday are still there and the pretty gray twin is not red tagged anymore. We set up the buffets and the traps as usual. It all becomes a daily routine now, part of the chores...
I must know all resident cats within half a mile by now. I always see the same ones, they are all doing well and stay alive. Why not NoTail???
Still making U-turns to chase after every black plastic bag and dead or dying crows. Asked Fuzzy again "where is NoTail" and she just stares to the front door, but he was not there either. She is waiting for him to come home too...
08/04/04 Wednesday
Different opossum in the trap west, C had nothing at the school, food is being eaten more and more. Called the shelter for the other volunteer that worked on July 3rd. Friday she will be there and I can ask her about the black cat without a tail that no one else has seen. When I arrived at C's apartment the little gray twin came running to me. What do you know! C adopted him yesterday. He was at the shelter three weeks. His name is fitting for the little prince that he is, Sultan. I knew from day one that this is another special cat. But he should have never been separated from his twin brother. He is fixed and microchipped... But what about NoTail?
We set the traps and filled the feeding stations and will have to make a decision soon to move the traps. Saw the black cat in the park last night.
08/05/04 Thursday
No one in both traps, food is being eaten at a regular rate from all stations. Saw a black scottish fold in an empty lot with a tail of course and wondered what a breed was doing out there without a collar??? Put up new flyer at the telephone post outside the shelter. Set up the traps and the buffets, it has become such an unspoken routine.

08/06/04 Friday
Nothing in trap by school, food at park east was all eaten as it will be the next days too. Looks like we are feeding the local wildlife too! I had the white and orange cat with a blue collar in the trap by the park again, second or third time already, no tag. The volunteer from Agoura Animal Shelter, Emily, called again yesterday. They will leave the flyer up another 30 days. The only shelter to call me and to keep a look out for NoTail! At the Baldwin Park Shelter, Jennifer, the other volunteer didn't work today. She may be the only other person to have seen the Manx. The first volunteer told me today that she too lost two of her cats within four days of each other. She got up at 3 am in the morning every day and searched. I was very saddened by that. She never found them.
The second animal communicator Linda still couldn’t reach NoTail. Fuzzy told her that NoTail was either carried out or left when someone walked in or out of the apartment, she emailed today. Well, that is nearly impossible and there is no motive! The cat profiler is now not sure anymore about her profile of NoTail anymore.
Set up an appointment with yet another animal communicator for Monday morning and canceled the phone appointment with Linda. She believes NoTail is not alive anymore and none of the other animals have seen a thing, she told me. How is that possible? These animals live less than five feet from where NoTail disappeared. Wouldn’t they have seen or heard something? If they can mind talk with humans? Later I spoke with the cat profiler for almost two hours trying to figure out what happened to NoTail with reason and logic, but again we came to no conclusion other than he was scared away and had to run and hide.
We set up the VCR and camera properly after I printed instructions from www.catsinthebag.org. Buffets behind the garages and in the park, no traps for the time being, we need a break, need to sleep in tomorrow, so damn tired!
I even collected all the nail clippings from my cats and placed them near the kitty buffet behind the garages this evening… Put up a bunch of flyers within a little over a mile outward in all directions, Grand, Badillo, Glendora Avenues! There are tensions between us now, we are both tired, but I don’t want to give up! At 2 am we set up the camera in the patio. I was in tears already and then there was no stopping, I cried and couldn’t stop anymore for the next hour.
How could this have happened????
What happened to him???
Is he alive or not?
Is he near or far?
Did someone do anything to him maliciously?
Accidentally?
Then why isn’t anyone telling us?
WHERE IS MY BABY????
I cant take this anymore!
So I just couldn’t go home to sleep, my baby is not sleeping either. Instead I drove all four quadrants until 4 am in the morning. Saw a few cats, not as many as the last time. Drove by an older sighting of a cat with a stub, but nothing, nothing, nothing!
A coyote was running around the golf course close by where I live and I hope that there aren’t any in Covina. By 7 am I finally fell into deep sleep, so deep I never even heard the phone ring. Funny thing was that C didn't get to the phone in time either to speak to this gentleman...
08/07/04 Saturday
Sat 8:54 AM message from gentleman:
"Look, your black cat is history, just stop littering our streets and stop putting these stupid things up, it's gone, you should have taken care of your cat when you had it.” And he just hung up. C received a similar message at the same time with the variation that other people rip off the flyers and throw them in the street. That was very encouraging, thank you for this message.
Pomona Shelter today for me, spoke to handler David. He already knew me and he insured me that he didn’t see any cats without a tail. C at Baldwin Park Shelter, there was nothing of course and again we couldn’t talk to the second volunteer to confirm the existence of the Manx. Back from Pomona I went to the park and tried to find the spot in the reed again, where we saw NoTail's image a few weeks ago. I don’t think I wrote about it here, it ws quite shocking. I couldn't find it and was actually glad, but seeing it once was enough. I am still not sure whether the image was supposed to be alive or dead or just water between the reed. But it so looked like NoTail's face and ears. Did this appear to us on purpose? How awful! But we are not superstitious - right?!
Later I left a long used sock with the garage kitty buffet, and one in the patio. Did I mention that many times we wear the same clothes over and over to increase spreading our scent? Spread the hair from all of my other cats along the back of the garages and the patio. Then we took the bucket of cat litter and I spread it behind the garages, making a trail between the two kitty buffets. It was already almost midnight. We were nearly done when a Covina policeman came through one of the garbage doors to the back of the garages and flashed the light on us. I turned off my flashlight, ha, that is not what you are supposed to do. It was reflex to hide. I stumbled over my own words and blabbered incoherent stuff. I was never stopped like that by the police before, like a criminal. He said come out where I can see you and keep your hands where I can see them. I didn't raise them over my head. I told him that we are making a trail - and I stopped myself short of saying "of cat litter". We told him about NoTail and I asked him if he has seen the flyers and he said no, this is the first time he heard of it. Later C reminded me that they have a flyer in the police department's lobby. I wish I remembered sooner to tell him to check his own office lobby. He said you don’t look like spraying graffiti (not really, just ant spray around the kitty buffet). The people that live in the big homes north of the complex and can see down there, called the police on us. The cop said we should do this in daytime. I told him that the cats come out at night. Forgot what he said to that. They left and we continued the litter trail and food court... That was the highlight of the day.
Also spread out a bunch of catnip around the patio inside and out. We drove around more and I got more and more saddened.
08/08/04 Sunday
Faxed more flyers out to vets. In the evening, we walked the small streets and called his name. Can he even still hear us? The usual kitty buffets, video surveillance. Watched the last two nights video in fast forward mode. So many cats in and out of the patio, 26 times. Drove by the condos where a cat without a tail was seen a while ago. I received an email from a cat person there. Of course there was no cat now.
08/09/04 Monday
The food is eaten now at a regular schedule by the same cats. No trapping still. The animal communicator Marty called me in the morning. She began by telling me that NoTail is alive and he is eating. He showed her a two story apartment building he is living behind, someone puts food out there. He is really scared, a cat chased him away from his home, he hides in the bushes during the day. When he left, he crossed only one small road or driveway and he wanted me to know that he didn’t run away on his own. He ran to find a place to hide because another cat scared him away. He only comes out of hiding between 4 and 5 in the morning. And he wanted me to know that he loves me and wants to come home but he is too scared. Marty told him that he must be brave and come out of hiding and go back home.
Oh dear, if all these words only were true…
After setting up the kitty buffets we drove to the location on Covina, from where I received word of a sighting. We put up flyers there as suggested. But it has been a month or so since that cat was seen. This location is over two miles from C's apartment and really too far. Then we checked the church behind the apartment building. Remember, a woman claims that she saw him in the shopping center. There was a cat, but it was cream colored.
08/10/04 Tuesday
Called Citizens Business Bank and thanked them for leaving the flyers up and apologized for not asking before. They were very nice and asked about NoTail. Called more vets in the area and none of the people that work there saw a black cat without a tail. Will fax more flyers to them.
In the evening I got a call from Costa's Restaurant. They said my cat is out front in the bushes. My heart jumped a mile high only to land in the gutter again. I raced over there and it was only the black cat we have been seeing there for a long time - with a tail. I was so disappointed. This call sounded so much like the break I have been hoping and waiting for.
We put out the kitty buffet again in four places, will have to reduce it soon. I watched the video late at night and the cats came and went 18 times, but no NoTail. Drove around for another hour thinking he must be here somewhere! On San Bernardino Road I saw a bunch of cats all over the driveways and bushes. Went back to the church to see if he might be there since I think I saw at least two cats there last night. But there was only an opossum or two. In tears I made my way home.
08/11/04 Wednesday
Received a few emails through the website yesterday and today and even more website visitors. Is it the LA Times ad or the additional flyers? All messages from people wishing me luck and giving support. I don't know who else to call for help.
We both met at Baldwin Park. C looked at the animals and I talked to Maricella, David, and Terry. They finally let me look at the impound list or live animal log. This list has all live animals on it that come in every day and the list is endless. One to three pages for every single day. And by the way, people, please don't take your local wildlife into the LA County Shelters! They will put them to sleep. What is the point?
I checked the week before July 3rd. Remember, I am still hunting for that Manx that was seen by the volunteer at the shelter. Took 20 numbers down and then they closed. Nothing looked like a match. I will keep looking and I appreciate them giving me the list.
It was late now but I still went out to Covina, set up buffets and checked a couple of areas, but it was still too noisy. Checked behind the church for the third time, the area that doesn't leave me alone. I thought this is a perfect place for him to hide. But no, it wasn't him. A kitten lives there with an opossum. Someone feeds them with dry cat food. I was very touched at this unlikely partnership. This must have been them last night too. I saw two pairs of eyes. Watched last nights video, 20 times a cat came in, tabbys, black and whites, one black, orange... all have a tail. It is a repeat of every night so far. The meteor shower showed me one spectacular huge meteor in the northern sky exactly at midnight and exactly where I saw the last one. It was beautiful with the longest afterglow. Another free wish??
08/12/04 Thursday
The days go by so fast and he is gone longer and longer...
Visited Manuel, the apartment manager, this morning. Needed to question him again on the days after NoTail's disappearance. He insured and promised me that no one of his crew or himself has seen or done anything to NoTail. They all rather wanted the money. When they find a dead animal, the maintenance people bring it to him, they either bury it there or he calls Animal Control in Baldwin Park. He said, no one else here calls them but me. That made me feel better, because I had my doubts...
In leaving the apartments, I saw a police car driving along Badillo with one person taking down three of our flyers....
I called for NoTail, it was so quiet there in the morning. He must be still alive! Why would he be dead???
The Agoura Animal Shelter left a message again to hear if I found my tailless cat. Then I received a call from www.carlwashington-petdetective.com. He said he will find my cat within 24 hours....
At night we searched again for almost 2 hours, filled the buffets and set the camera up. We must have seen at least 25 cats during this time. All strays.
Watched the video from the night before and saw one new very shy tricolor/tortie mix.

08/13/04 Friday the 13th.............
Email from Janice Sipple (National Pet Recovery), she will review website and then call me. Request for help from Carl Washington Pet Detective. Prepared for very early morning searches.
08/14/04 Saturday
Up at 3 am now. Crawled around the neighborhood for hours. The police stopped me behind Rite Aid. He asked what my cat looks like and he said he will keep his eyes open. Few cats were still out, waiting on the door steps to be let in and fed. Left more food at the stations. Drove all four areas. And the Williamsburg condos. Walked the school yard and found a wallet with 20 English pounds. Took it to the police. Met with the local cat lady to help me with parking Sunday night for night watch. Walked the entire park and left food out. Called my baby's name. C went to Pomona and Baldwin Park shelters.
A couple of guys, one of them named Hector Lazarro called at 3 pm saying urgently that my cat is here at Taco Bell on Grand in Glendora. I raced down there and asked everyone, Mexicans that couldn’t speak English, McDonalds and Taco Bell employees, kids on skateboards, gas station attendant, stores up and down a whole block between Glendora and Grand, checked every corner and the storm drain. No one saw any cat. The manager from McD went inside the trash enclosure with me. Nothing anywhere. These guys did a good number on me and probably watched me until they got tired because I was out there in the hot sun for 2.5 hours. But I already had a feeling when I got the call that something is not right. Still it is heartbreaking that these guys made a joke of my quest. They don’t have anything better to do, what do you expect! His voice sounded so pleasant on the phone and so truthful. A good player and liar! Funny thing was too that one of the flyers is at the intersection of those streets in front of Taco Bell. What are the chances of that. The place is 2 miles north of C and therefore somewhat possible for NoTail to travel, so I had to check it out.
08/15/04 Sunday
At 4 am I stopped at the McDonalds parking lot again anyway just to make sure. The food I left yesterday was full of ants and snails. No cat came by here!!
Drove around the church, school, park, all around, all four sides, few cats. Spoke to the newspaper delivery guy for LA Times, gave him a flyer. He said he hasn’t seen a black cat without a tail at all but did mention all the cats he sees every day. He will look for him. Checked the western storm drain again, it was cleared of brush now. The garage that burned down a while before NoTail disappeared was almost rebuilt. I asked the manager if he saw any cat inside the boared garage and he insured me that there wasn't one. Put out more food behind the garages. Walked back around to C's area and saw one of the worst cat death I have ever seen. In the small driveway one of the skinny tabbies was hanging upside down from the gas meter. I have seen this shy cat on the video tapes every night. Its entrails were hanging down onto the asphalt. Foot stuck on top of the meter. I had a bad feeling of coming here today and now I know why. I was very upset and trying to hold myself together. Is that what happened to NoTail?
C later cleaned it up.
Drove to Ashleys house and spoke to neighbor Pam near Castleview, the cat Ashley reported to me is not really black and it has a four inch stub.
Called the woman that lost a tortie with gray in the same area around the same time. I left her two messages but sadly she never returned my call. I wonder if she is even looking for her cat that I am sure misses her a lot. There is a tortie with very light colored back paws and chest coming into C's patio to eat every night. I have not seen her in the beginning of the taping. Can't see colors with the nightshot feature.
Throughout the day I tried to call Hector back and of course he never answered his cell phone again or returned my messages, chicken!
An old lady from Pasadena called because she saw the ad in the Pasadena Star News. She saw a black cat near City Hall in Pasadena but didn’t see if it had a tail. I guess I don't have to drive all the way over there.
The pet detective emailed, but nothing conclusive. No word from Janice Sipple yet.
Checked the last two tapes from Friday and Saturday. Both tapes had the pretty skinny tabby, a girl it seems. She was very shy and skittish. At least she got a few good meals before she died. Then again, she came here to eat and maybe that’s why she was hit. I am so sorry, tabby, and I am so sorry, NoTail, so so very sorry!
08/16/04 Monday
Up at 3 am and an hour later at the west garages. Gloria had moved her car already. Parked and waited for two hours. But only hers and her neighbors cats appeared. Saw a black cat under the big tree in the school yard but it was too far to see, it ran away as soon as it saw me. Could this have been NoTail? Gloria said yesterday she saw a cat run across from the garages to the apartments with a hanging belly, but she didn't see the color nor if it had a tail. Got to find out...
Haven't called the San Gabriel Valley Humane Society in a while so I did today. Jane reported that one of the drivers found a black medium long haired female without a tail. She offered to double check the cat herself and when she came back on the phone, she said it has a stubby tail and is from Monterey Park. I did appreciate her telling me, that means she is keeping her eyes open for NoTail and she also periodically asks the drivers to remind them.
Received the map and info from Carl Washington pet detective, it says spread dry food as bait on all curbs within a 1/8 mile radius and wet food in some locations. Seems dangerous, will see what I can implement.
08/17/04 Tuesday
Tuna and sardines today at the garages. But only other cats came by. However two of them not even Gloria has seen around. So there are still cats that no one has seen because they are so shy. Just as these two debated whether to eat from my bowl, the cops came and scared them away for the rest of the night. They asked, are you still looking for your cat? How many days has it been? How much longer will you do that? Are you out here every night?
C had food in the patio as every night and video taped them eating, and food behind garages. Saw two cats in school yard outside big homes hissing at each other. Saw one with a tail for sure. They both effortlessly walked straight up the 10 foot brick wall.
Forgot to mention that on Sunday morning I spoke to the big guy as he sifted through the trash for recyclables. He has not seen NoTail in the trash. Neither has another couple that I asked this morning. They go through all the trash bins 3 times a week and have not seen NoTail dead in any of them.
Gloria mentioned to talk to the city street sweepers. Good idea!
This morning a San Gabriel Valley Tribune reporter called me. He was just looking at NoTail's website and he wants to do a story on NoTail and me. They will interview me tomorrow! I am impressed.
City of Covina Street Division will contact their street sweeper if they have seen NoTail. Waiting for a call back from Elaine.
Emailed Sciax Technology for info to rent one of these remote viewing systems to check storm drains and other openings. They replied that they don't rent these cameras and I should try heating duct cleaning companies for their remote viewing cameras.
08/18/04 Wednesday
Early morning watch again without a sighting. Very few cats were out. C went to Baldwin Park Shelter without any luck of course.
I called countless rental companies, manufacturers, and duct cleaners. No one has a search cam for rent and to buy one would be $6000 to $14000. They suggested to call the fire department. But I need to search the openings and storm drains alone and quietly at night. Elaine from Street Division never called me back.
In the evening the San Gabriel Valley Tribune photographer arrived and took pictures of me on the sofa looking outside waiting for NoTail to come back. After that the reporter arrived and interviewed me for an hour. I am looking forward to the article in this weekends newspaper and hope and pray for some answers into NoTail's disappearance.
Watched two tapes and two new cats appeared in the patio for dinner. But they were not black.
08/19/04 Thursday
Too tired this morning, so no watch. C put up new flyers this morning. He did hear some cat fighting several times and it seems to be coming from behind the garages. Cat fights might be indications for cats fighting with newcomers. I heard it the night before last at the west end too....
The reporter interviewed C today.
Called every street sweeper company in the area and none of them service Covina. They didn't want to give me the name and phone number until later this day. City Street Division emailed the street cleaning company but didn't get a reply. They finally called them upon my request. The driver is on vacation and got sick. Nothing but road blocks everywhere.
Called Janice Sipple from National Pet Recovery. She was sick too. She will email me today with info. And she said two pet detectives will be in LA next week with a search cam... Could I be that lucky?
Called Craig at LA Times and Bella at SGVT to continue the ad another week.
Received a call from Emily at the Agoura Animal Shelter if we found him yet.
No search tonight, just updated website in anticipation of a few more visitors and scanned more pics.

08/20/04 Friday
Will this go on forever??? It hurts so much to fear that he might not be alive anymore. And what were his last hours like and minutes? It turns my stomach to only imagine the fear and pain he must have felt. Better not go there...
Too tired to get up today at 3 am.
The reporter called me again to verify phone numbers and dates and he said the article will be published tomorrow. I am so excited about it and thanked him.
I had just arrived at the street cleaning company in Downey. Asked staff about their driver. His name is Mike and he just had a heart attack and is in the hospital. They called him anyway, but he didn't see a black cat without a tail. I hope he remembered right. Poor guy, I wished him well.
Received a call from a gentleman in the area that has the post card. Out of curiosity he wanted to know if we found him yet.
Worked all night on this website to be ready for anyone that reads the newspaper article and wants to know more.
08/21/04 Saturday
No one called or emailed and when I bought the paper, I knew why. The story wasn't printed yet, hoping for Sunday. I spend my Saturday afternoon checking Baldwin Park, San Gabriel, and Pomona Shelters. Even went back to the entire first four weeks again to see if I missed an entry. But I didn't. NoTail was NOT picked up dead or injured by any of them. Later we checked the stormdrain to the west again with my camcorder. But there was only a little water flowing through. Set up the camera again in the patio like every night and food behind the garages. Followed Carl Washington Pet Detective's advice and spread out dry food. And saw about 10 cats come out to the curb to eat. But not NoTail. I hope I will not anger the residents in the area too much. Then I watched the video from Friday night. Only the regulars came in to eat.
08/22/04 Sunday
Again, no calls or emails, and no story in the paper. I wonder what happened or if they decided not to print it because it is just too crazy?
At night we spread dry food again in the cat frequented areas. And I watched the tape from Saturday night. Five gunshots are recorded on the tape, someone yelling and screaming, then a helicopter directly overhead. There were no sirens to be heard. One of three black and white cats wasn't phased by any of this at all and kept eating. In all eight different cats came to eat.
08/23/04 Monday
Again, no story in the paper. The reporter called to tell me that it will be out tomorrow pending more urgent news.
Prepared a new flyer according to National Pet Recovery suggestions. It looks very good and we posted several of them at night.
We repeated spreading food in an attempt to bring out NoTail from wherever he is hiding within a 1/8 mile radius. It is working for seeing just about every other cat that lives there. Only the regular eight cats where on the video tape. No shooting last night.
And mom is still there with her kittens in the stray colony west of the park off Grand Avenue. But so many of them are missing and I worry what happened to them.
08/24/04 Tuesday
No story, when will they print it? Instead they printed an article about Jennifer, the volunteer at the Baldwin Park Shelter. She is the only person we were not yet able to ask about the black cat without a tail that vanished from their cages on July 3rd. She hasn't been in since. Cyril doesn't want to look anymore. He is tired and wants to stay home. Does he care to look no more? I want to stay home too, more than ever, dont want to leave my house, never wanted to go through this nightmare. Dear God, NoTail never wanted to be with him. My poor baby slept on a bookcase with his cheek on a rock! Wasn't this a sign loud enough that he didn't want to be there???
08/25/04 Wednesday
Cyril went to Baldwin Park shelter, nothing as usual. I sprinkled food along the curb in the usual places. More later with Cyril. Later without him I drove all locations to see who came out. Many other cats came to eat at the curb and I watched them until 2 am.

08/26/04 Thursday
at 6:30 the phone rang, Andy Marshall from KFWB. I didn't know where I was, disoriented. She saw the newswire of NoTail??? It was finally out in the paper, wow! And they picked it up right away. Told her how ironic that they approach me now after I tried to get them to do an announcement weeks ago and would have paid for it. She said it would run through the afternoon. Don't know if it did or not, I couldn't listen all afternoon. Tried to sleep more but the phone rang of the hook.
11 am April Lessenring saw a the flier 626-915-7111, she saw a NoTail at 262 Cypress and Barranca in Covina. She was very nice and observant. But it is far. 2 miles or so. She saw the flier and not paper.
Diane, just a concerned cat lover giving advice to call other organizations
Laura from Monrovia saw a NoTail, but it had white fur on the back paws.
Older man from La Verne called re a black cat but didn't know if it had a tail or not? He said he loves cats and feeds them and wants them to be left alone.
A woman from Glendora saw a NoTail across (direction?) from the wash, she lives south of foothill. Cat had white bib or seemed to be a collar?
Email from Angie, just wanted to give support.
A man saw a black cat in an alley behind Jack in the Box on Azusa Avenue and 2nd Street by the Motel Western Inn. No mention of a tail at all.
Irene mentioned to check the nurseries on Grand and Acosta in Azusa, there are always a lot of cats hanging around because of all the mice.
A woman called for a sighting but with a stubby tail from Collier and Strata near Ladera Park in San Dimas.
A girl left message saying that she has the cat and when I want to come look at it? She was disconnected in the middle of that sentence.
A woman called that lost her cat black and white cat named Spunky 6 months ago. She never got him back either and asked me to keep an eye out for him.
Sylvia called re an all black cat with white in front.
08/27/04 Friday
Cyril drove by the Cypress sighting in am, but the street was too busy for food sprinkles and he abandoned all efforts. He left food in the patio and videotaped. I got more calls.
08/28/04 Saturday
More calls, but nothing serious about NoTail.
Cyril went to Baldwin Park and Pomona. Even in Pomona they start to recognize me. And Maricella in Baldwin Park saw the story in the paper.
At 11pm I went to the sighting in Cypress, walked around, asked a guy out smoking and put up two fliers. Sprinkled food behind homes on Cypress in a small street, back to car and drove through street and there he was. The cat without a tail. What a weird feeling that was, for a split second I hoped that it would be him and my heart jumped out of my chest with a medium adrenaline release. But it wasn't him of course. A young cat with a furry bush over a tiny stub. He came pretty close to me and I watched him for a while. It was not NoTail. Strangely enough no one ever called me later on the fliers posted just a couple of houses down the street.
Picked up the tapes from the last two nights, had sprinkled food and on the way home, drove all those areas and checked the layout of the wash where one cat was reported. Watched the videos and only the regular nine cats came to eat, two black, two tabbys, two orange, two black and white and the tortoise with gray.
08/29/04 Sunday
No calls at all. Went out at 7 pm, picked up Cyril and checked Little Dalton Wash, homes and layout, talked to father and daughter out walking, and couple on Barranca side, spread food and left fliers. No sighting of any cat without a tail.
Spread food in all usual areas and later drove them all off, just a few cats out, not late enough.
Left the newspaper article and my last question in envelope on neighbor Leslie's door.
08/30/04 Monday
Very sad today! Fighting back tears all morning. Cyril called that food was all gone. No tape last night. Tried to call Angie for support and Laura from Monrovia, no one there.
Researched remote wireless cameras on internet. Went out at 8:30 pm, sprinkled food at entry to wash off Barranca, too many people everywhere.
Sprinkled food at church, don't see the white cat at the shopping center anymore.
One cat crossed big Badillo Street and ran into grass of school yard, couldn't see if tail or not?
Lovers at each parking lot of park, two cars each, one each with foggy windows. Left food anyway.
Very nice police officer stopped me at almost 11 pm at west end of park, he didn't know about NoTail and said he will look for him. Was astonished to hear that he has been missing 3 months now. Yeah, me too!
Later saw black cat again in east park, drove through Williamsburg condos, where one sighting was reported, not one cat there. Never saw that cat. Very far anyway.
Drove by wash again, nothing, one of the access gates open, contemplated to go in but didn't.
08/31/04 Tuesday
Very sad again, have to come to terms, that he is not alive anymore. Called City re trash day, was forwarded to Athens Disposal on Valley Boulevard. Tina said she will call me back and never did.
Called Glendora Animal Control, Joleen, she remembered but said I can not go into storm drain access road, period. Not very cooperative.
Called Jane at SGVHS, she saw nothing coming in without a tail.
Spread a little food just before dark behind church, but only saw the skunk again.
Visited Leslie again, couldn't find out if he read the story in the paper that I left for him. He wrote that the kids next door have something to do with it, that they are scared to tell that cat is dead and thrown in the trash. He wrote again that God tells him that cat is dead. I asked him specifically if he killed cat and he just shrugs his shoulders. Last visit he said he didn't know, but I never asked him that directly. He will not admit and not say no either. Pointless and he doesn't make much sense either in what he writes.
Spoke to other neighbor in A across Jessica and Leticia? Very nice girls, have three indoor only cats. The neighbors that moved out with cats still come to visit them and they didn't take NoTail, what I feared too. They are traveling and left their own cats with mom. Jessica said that Alicias boys next to Cyril's also were looking for NoTail and even called out when they spotted one of the blacks that live there. They assured me that the boys have nothing to do with NoTail being killed.
Again this leaves only one person that could have killed him!!!
Had a bad crying fit after that in Cyril's apartment and he only sat there dumbfounded with nothing to say just wishing me and all this to go away, I guess?
