How NoTail Got Lost
|
|
After six years all living together, Cyril moved out in 2002 claiming Fuzzy and NoTail as his own and took them with him. Cyril moved to Covina, California. I had them for some weekends and in April 2004, they were at my house and that was the last time I would ever see my baby….
And then the fateful call, that I dreaded ever since letting them go. Friday, May 28, 2004, at 7 am, Cyril called and said “you are not going to like this -- NoTail is gone”. I screamed and yelled “we will never see him again!” I didn’t want to be right.
Five days earlier, on Monday morning, May 24, Cyril went to work out of town 65 miles away. The patio glass and screen door was open a few inches for them to go outside to use the litter box. There was nothing else to hide under. NoTail had no collar, no tag, no microchip, no tattoo.

The wooden boards of the patio are six feet high. They couldn’t jump that high anymore, because they were so overweight. NoTail weighed over 13 pounds at that time.
Cyril's boss asked him to stay another night, after he wanted to return on Wednesday, to make sure they were okay. But then he returned on Thursday evening, May 27, only to find the screen door closed and the glass sliding door still open. Fuzzy was stuck inside for days without a litter box. And NoTail was gone. The only indication was, that the litter box shovel was on the ground and not propped up on the first cross brace of the fence. My baby was gone, he just left. Could have anyone come inside the patio to pick him up? Very unlikely, the fence would not hold anyone! He would have fought and hissed and then there are 50 other cats living in the complex. No one needs another cat there. Something must have really, really scared him to jump the fence! And once outside he couldn't get back in. Too high from the outside....
